What Affects The Cost Of An Estimate?
Size of the project
A single-storey extension and a new build house are not the same amount of measuring work.
Complexity
Unusual structure, difficult access, phased works or heavy refurbishment all add review time.
Quality of information
Complete drawings and a specification are quicker to price than sketches and a phone call.
Scope of support
An estimate alone costs less than an estimate plus scope of works, branded quotation and programme.
Number of options
Pricing two or three specification options takes longer than pricing one.
Timescale
A project needed at short notice may affect the fee depending on current workload.

What Information Do You Need?
Drawings are the starting point — plans, elevations and sections. Structural information, specifications, schedules and site photographs all improve accuracy, and tender documents are useful where they exist.
